Spokesman Ray McBerry said the group meant no offense and views the plates as a way for people to honor their heritage. "We believe that everyone has the right to preserve their heritage," he said. "Southerners have as much right to be proud of their heritage as anybody else." Soooo does that mean that the Nazi's have a right to preserve their heritage, and that Abe visiting the tombs of war criminals is a good thing? Here's the story. http://news.yahoo.com/group-puts-confederate-flag-ga-specialty-tag-144300359.html Several weeks ago, a story similar to this was also in the news. I made a comment about the 'Sons of the Confederacy', more as an idea, than an actual group. I posited that to them the Civil War (1.0) was not over, or that it had now moved onto Civil War 2.0 (CW2). I was mainly posting 'tongue-in-cheek'.... sort of. I was quickly pounced upon by several other posting commentors, who were only too willing to call me alarmist and out of touch with today's society. However, at that time, my mind was just beginning to get wrapped around the idea that CW2 was even possible. Now I view it not only as possible, but having a degree of probability. Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi, all have Confederate Battle Flags on their license plates. After much controversy South Carolina moved its Confederate flag from the State House to a flag pole on the Capital lawn. So it's down, but not out in South Carolina. The politicians who use the term 'secede from the union', come mainly from South Carolina and Texas, with a smattering from Georgia and Alabama. Since the Supreme Court has knocked down the voting rights act recently, Texas, Florida and North Carolina have all moved to restrict people of color from being able to vote. So it just may not be too far fetched that these 'Sons of the Confederacy' do exist and that they are indeed an actual group. Is their ultimate goal CW2? Without being on the inside of course, it's impossible to know with certainty. However, when you have a popular media outlet screaming a 'States Rights', and hatred of a centralized government 24/7, it's not hard to fathom the possibilities. When the message is one of constantly dividing the population into categories (races, sects, and religions), and constantly talking about deterioration of the country, then it is but a small step to set into motion a movement that pits brother against brother. Now that we have had a 'black man' as president, and have seen what anguish and downright hatred that has caused these 'white' Sons of the Confederacy to display, if we should soon get a 'woman' president, it's easy to see that these 'good ole boys' could go extra 'ballistic' and fast. Now it is possible of course, to say that all of these little events are not connected in any way, and that only a 'conspiracy theorist' could connect these dots. But conspiracy theorists have one thing in common. They believe that their theories are absolutely true and irrefutable.... I don't believe that these things are absolutely true... Only that they are possible.... I also believe that people are basically good, but I could be wrong... |
